ABOUT THIS PRINT
This is print is from a series of paintings that celebrate Kauai’s marvelous array of tropical fruit and proudly stages them within any of her many breathtaking locales. Each new painting is an opportunity to explore abstract designs in order to express my favorite island subjects in exciting ways. This particular pineapple is meant to evoke the steep walls of the valleys north of Hanalei in Waipa. The paint was applied in loose patches of rich color. The line work is bold and graphic while the dark saturated colors evoke a sense of mystery. This blend of volumetric modeling and cartoonish linearity reminds me of some works by Max Beckman, certainly an inspiration.
